Tips On Power Parenting

Being a parent is not easy, nor is it all fun and games. You have a responsibility to your children to take real care of them as well as help them become a better person. This is basically a life-long commitment to your children, even when they reach adulthood.

However, parenting is no picnic, especially if you have a lot of kids in the household. For homes with more than five kids, it is necessary for one parent to stay at home and take care of the children. This way, proper supervision and discipline can be instilled in the children. Still, handling and disciplining more than five children is tough work, thus, requiring a lot of patience, love, and understanding on the part of parents.

So if you have a lot of kids in your home, the following are three power tips on how to handle a big household:

Set priorities. If you are running a big family, it may be difficult for you to manage your time for each family member. With this, setting where your priorities lie is very important. Having many kids in the household can be exhausting, as you need to allot one-on-one time for each child. By prioritizing, you’ll be able to attend to their individual needs. Showing your children that you support them and that you are always there for them give them the assurance that you love them and that you care for them. However, avoid over-scheduling and always saying yes to your kids. Doing this will not only stress and tire you, but this might also hurt your children’s feelings if you can’t keep up with your promises.

Lighten up. Parenting more than five kids is no joke at all, especially at times when you just can’t seem to control them. Simultaneous fighting and whining can be extremely exasperating, and one kid doing all these is hard enough to deal with already. What more if you have a bunch in the household? If you feel you have had enough, step back and take a deep breath. The best way to deal with these instances is to distract them from their squabblings. Distract them with something that will catch their attention. It can be an activity, a song, a television show, a story, anything that can calm them down.

Show efforts for family time. Regularly going out with the whole gang can be quite expensive, especially if you only have a little budget for leisure. But family time is very important, especially for the children, as this can establish a good communication as well as a strong bond among family members. See, family times do not necessarily have to be costly. Instead of going to the movies, you can just schedule DVD movie marathons with the kids during the weekends at home, with their fave snacks and drinks of course. If your home is near a safe and cozy park, take your kids there every week and do some fun outdoor activities.
