Internet Kids – Safety first!
What parents of Internet kids have to know about their savety and how they can stop worrying about that.
To be father or mother of an Internet kid is a hard to handle. As adults we know very well, that Internet is a dangerous playground for our youngsters. But they need it for school, to play games, to chat, and at some point it gets addiction. And they start spending hours with it, and don’t even think about their safety out there. But are they really as safe as they think?
Well, let me see, some facts about Internet and the “safety” of our kids:
* 12% of all websites (4.2 billion…) are pornographic websites
* 1 in 5 children between 11 and 17 years of age was at least once sexually offended while chatting online (in 2003, it was even 1 in 3)
* Commercial child pornography is a multi-billion dollar industry worldwide.
* It is estimated that there are over 5 million unique child sexual abuse images on the Internet.
* 8% of total emails are porn-related. This is a daily average of 4.5 pornographic emails per internet user
Hey, Internet kids… What about your safety? It is shocking to read this statistics, isn’t it? And we let our kids spend hours a day surfing the web! But in fact, we can’t tell them, they must never ever again access Internet, because they will need it in school, during their studies, later in their daily work. So the only thing we can do, is protect them as good as possible. And there is a very simple solution, called Parental Control Software.
Parental control software consits of two different main tools. On one hand, a filtering tool enables you to define specific keywords, e.g. “sex” or “pornography”, and your kids web browser will automatically block all websites with keyword specific content. On the other hand you have a onitoring tool that allows you to see, what your kids are doing online. You can see what websites they visit, to whom they are chatting to, you can even read their emails if you want. And you can react, as soon as you observe something treatening their safety.
