Children and weddings: What Everyone Needs to Know

Children look really good when they appear on your wedding photographs but they will also draw attention away from you. Most brides do not appreciate this because they feel that that day is theirs. The young guests do not take alcohol and therefore the expenses are not as many for you. The bad side to this is that they make a mess when they are eating and this might get on your nerves as you watch the food you paid so much money for going to waste.

The best thing to do is to make sure that your young guests are occupied. Here are a few things to help you out when planning a wedding that has children:

When exchanging vows Give one of your guests the task of handing out some bags with snacks, picture books and crayons to the children. This will definitely keep them busy throughout. The bags should not be made of material that will make any noises when the children are opening it up. The chapel that you are having your wedding at may also have a separate room for them where they can play without disrupting the ceremony. There can be an adult to ensure they do not get up to any mischief.

During your reception The children should be the first ones to get food so that they do not get irritated and start crying. Let the children have a different place for them to sit away from the rest of the guests so that they do not create a mess for everyone else on the tables. Their tables should be short enough to enable them reach the food without having to strain.

The kind of food you serve The food that you give the children should be suitable for them. Do not just consider the older ones because the children are also part of the ceremony. Have the children make their own snacks as a way of keeping them busy.

Entertainment The children should be provided with some toys and games to play. These should be put on a table that is far from the exit door. Such activities will ensure that the children do not make unnecessary noise when the ceremony and reception are going on.

Toddlers and small babies at a wedding Some of your guests may have small babies or toddlers that they cannot leave behind. For these groups of people, get a separate room where they can be fed and have their diapers changed. The seats in the room should be comfortable for them to sit in. when the babies and toddlers are fed and dry they will not cry unnecessarily. These are just some of the things that can help you when arranging for your wedding and you are planning to have children as part of the guest list. Do not assume that the children will behave themselves automatically. Make arrangements to keep them entertained and not only will the children enjoy themselves but their parents will appreciate your effort.
